After years of cleaning windows, I have learned about streaks, water spots, or water damage like hard water stains. Some hard water stains can be removed when using the right cleaners if the window or glass is not in 2nd stage corrosion.
2nd stage corrosion is where the molecular structure is broken down or the glass is damaged beyond repair. It is very common to not to be able to see damaged glass before it is cleaned. After cleaning the glass is when you will see all the imperfections. Even when doing a good job of cleaning, it is very common to still see water spots on the windows. A very good tip is to inspect the windows after cleaning.
A commonly used tool for water spots it the microfiber cleaning cloth. I think microfiber cloths provide the best washing and drying properties. These lint free towels will not let you down. They are perfect for cleaning of glass.
The most common water spots are the ones that get around the edge of the window after you clean them. If these spots are not removed they will make the window look dirty. After cleaning and inspecting your windows, if you still see these spots, don’t get aggravated. With just a quick wipe using one of these microfiber cloths, the spots will be gone.
Microfiber is a fiber with less than 1 denier per filament. Denier is a measure of linear density and is often used to describe the size of a fiber or filament. Nine thousand meters of a one-denier fiber weighs one gram. Fibers are combined to form yarns. Yarns are knitted or woven in a variety of constructions.
While many microfibers are made of polyester, they can also be composed of polyamide (nylon) or other polymers.
Microfiber products used for consumer cleaning are generally constructed from split conjugated fibers of polyester. Polyamide microfiber is used for commercial cleaning products. Commercial cleaning products also include many products constructed of 100% polyester microfiber. Fabrics made with microfibers are exceptionally soft and hold their shape well. When high-quality microfiber is combined with the right knitting process, it creates an extremely effective cleaning material.
